ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Monday accused Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial government of complete failure in managing the law and order situation in the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Responding to points raised by MNA Iqbal Afridi during the National Assembly session, the minister clarified that neither the Pakistan Army nor any federal institution had asked residents of Tirah to migrate.

He said that seasonal migration during winter has been a centuries-old tradition of the area’s people, adding that this time local themselves supported intelligence-based operations due to prevailing security concerns.

He said that said no extraordinary military operation was underway in Tirah and accused the provincial government of being unable to manage security in the merged districts.

“If the provincial government cannot handle the situation, we are ready to take back the former FATA areas under federal control through the 28th Constitutional Amendment,” he said.

Referring to the recent tragic incident in Tarlai, the minister said the area remains peaceful and the government ensured swift and effective relief efforts after the blast.

He said that emergency services were activated in hospitals, government officials attended funerals, and federal ministers and MNAs were present to support the affected families.

He said the youngest martyr of the incident was only seven years old and people from all sects stood united in grief and solidarity.

He said the nation showed resilience in the face of terrorism, thwarting the enemies’ designs. He termed terrorism a serious challenge and said Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s remarks reflected the sentiments of the people.

He stressed the need to fully implement the National Action Plan and other counterterrorism measures, adding that anyone who takes up arms against the state is a terrorist.

“Pakistan belongs to all of us, and protecting it is our collective responsibility. Only through unity can we defeat terrorism,” he said.
