KARACHI: A meeting on human rights and development initiatives was held at the Sindh Human Rights Department, which was also attended by Stephen Kent, Country Director of Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) Pakistan along with team.
The meeting was briefed on the mandate, duties and ongoing initiatives of the Human Rights Department aimed at strengthening the protection and promotion of human rights across the province.
It was informed that various reform programs were launched under the leadership of Advisor to the Chief Minister Sindh on Human Rights Rajveer Singh Sodha, including institutional strengthening, capacity building, protection of vulnerable groups and initiatives for the promotion of human rights at the provincial and district levels.
Chairperson of the Sindh Commission on the Status of Women, Advocate Rubina Brohi briefed about the activities of the commission for women’s rights, gender equality and protection of women in Sindh.
Representing the Civil Society Support Program, Abdul Waheed Sangrasi presented details of ongoing projects supported by NCA in Sindh, including humanitarian assistance, climate change mitigation, community empowerment and social justice initiatives.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in training and capacity building programs for human rights defenders.
They also agreed to improve the implementation of human rights, especially in those districts where projects are underway with the support of NCA.
The delegation appreciated the overall performance of the Human Rights Department, Government of Sindh and recognized its active role in promoting human rights in the province.
