Kashmir Solidarity Day observed: CM Maryam pays tribute to Kashmiri martyrs

LAHORE: Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed on Thursday, to express support to the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their just struggle for right to self-determination.

The day is observed every year on February 5, across Pakistan to express solidarity to Kashmiris and to draw attention to the unresolved status of the disputed region inviting attention of the international community to the Indian atrocities in the Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

To mark the Day, solidarity walks, seminars, exhibitions were organized across Pakistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir.

One-minute silence was observed across the country at 10:00 am to pay homage to the martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement. A ceremony marking the day was held at Kohala Bridge, where participants formed a human chain and reaffirmed support for the people of Kashmir. The event included flag hoisting and the playing of the national anthem, with officials, community representatives and citizens attending.

In the events held to mark the day, speakers emphasised the need for continued international attention on the Kashmir issue and urged the global community to facilitate a peaceful settlement in line with UN commitments. They reiterated Pakistan’s continued moral, political and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people.

Rallies were also held in which the participants called for a peaceful resolution of the longstanding dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
