KARACHI: In a significant milestone for Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, Biman Bangladesh Airlines resumed direct flight operations to Karachi on Thursday after 14 years.
According to the Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA), the first direct flight from Dhaka to Karachi (BG 341) landed at Jinnah International Airport, where it received a traditional water cannon salute in a ceremonial welcome.
Following the aircraft’s landing, airport authorities organized a high-level reception ceremony to commemorate the restoration of the air link between the two countries.
The resumption of direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi represents a major step forward in strengthening connectivity and fostering closer people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The route had been suspended since 2011, leaving travellers with no direct air connection between the two cities.
Aviation officials view the restoration of this route as a positive development that will facilitate trade, tourism, and family connections between the two neighbouring nations. The direct flight service is expected to significantly reduce travel time and costs for passengers who previously had to take connecting flights through third countries.
The PAA hailed the resumption as the beginning of a “new chapter of Pakistan-Bangladesh friendship,” emphasizing the importance of air connectivity in promoting bilateral cooperation and cultural exchange.
