KARACHI: Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) said on Sunday that due to Sindh police’s blockades around the Karachi Press Club, it could not hold its scheduled press conference at Karachi Press Club on Sunday, which was aimed at presenting BYC’s Annual Report 2025 on Human Rights Violations in Balochistan and marking January 25 as the Day of Remembrance of “Baloch Genocide”.

In a statement, BYC asserted: “Such action clearly demonstrated that state institutions are employing every possible tactic to sabotage the struggle for human rights and the voices being raised for the Baloch nation. It is evident that the Pakistan government’s persistent efforts to suppress the peaceful political representation of the BYC at any cost.”

The committee further stated that those measures proved that all constitutional platforms had effectively been made to “forbidden fruit” for the Baloch nation. Due to these unjust hurdles created by the Sindh police, the Baloch Yakjhati Committee, however, held its press conference on its Facebook Page at 5:00 pm, which was earlier scheduled at KPC at 3:00 pm, the committee informed.

The committee said: “We appeal to the Baloch nation and all conscious citizens to stay connected with us and continue to raise their voices against the state injustices.”

Eye witnesses said huge contingents of police were deployed on roads leading to the press club. The traffic was diverted. Containers and min-buses were used in blocking roads near the Governor’s House and a road leading to Zainab Market and Fawara Chowk via the Press Club route. When asked, a top police official told media that the police had been deployed for security.
