KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will rebuild and revamp 418 roads across the megacity at an estimated cost of Rs 14 billion, as a major step towards strengthening Karachi’s infrastructure and rehabilitating key road network.

The PC-I documents are being prepared to ensure swift execution of the projects. This is in addition to the earlier approval of Rs 5.5 billion for the rehabilitation of 26 major arterial roads. It reflects the Sindh Government and KMC’s continued commitment to improving Karachi’s infrastructure.

In the latest move, additional streets and roads have been identified for reconstruction to strengthen connectivity, road safety, and commuter convenience.

A meeting was held at the KMC Head Office, with Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab in the chair to expedite the approval process, review ongoing schemes, and finalize future development plans.

Financial Advisor KMC Gulzar Abro briefed the Mayor on the latest developments including the grant of Rs 20 billion for the full revamping of megacity’s infrastructure.

The Mayor directed the concerned departments to immediately finalize all project formalities and float tenders without further delay, emphasizing that the city is witnessing unprecedented investment of billions of rupees in infrastructure rehabilitation under the vision of Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

He stated that serious and sustained efforts were being made to address long-standing civic challenges and to create improved facilities for Karachiites on a fast-track basis. He reaffirmed that KMC believed in performance and was fully committed to delivering on its promises to the citizens in execution of the party manifesto.

Mayor directed the concerned authorities to ensure the immediate completion of Shahrah-e-Shaheed Millat and Shahrah-e-Quaideen.

He instructed that a beautification component must be incorporated into all ongoing and upcoming development schemes.
