PESHAWAR: Secretary Transport Muhammad Zubair to discuss the proposed Suburban Railway Project and Chief Executive Trans Peshawar Dr Syed Murtaza Asghar Bukhari and other officials held discussion on the suburban Railway Project.

According to details, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Transport, Muhammad Zubair, to discuss the proposed Suburban Railway Project, with a focus on facilitating commuters travelling to Peshawar from surrounding districts through improved rail-based connectivity.

The meeting was attended by Managing Director Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority (KPUMA) Iftikhar Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer TransPeshawar, Dr. Syed Murtaza Asghar Bukhari and Dean at Fachhochschule Austria, Ashfaq Khattak.Ashfaq Khattak presented the contours of engagement for the Suburban Railway Project, outlining its conceptual framework, proposed alignment, and operational model. The discussion focused on the pre-feasibility study and phased implementation approach for various rail sections.

It was agreed that the first phase would cover the Peshawar - Jahangira section. The meeting also reviewed rail sections discussed for inclusion in subsequent phases, including Nowshera - Mardan (23 km), Mardan - Dargai (42 km), and Mardan - Charsadda (28 km), and Kohat and Jand sections.

The proposed suburban railway is planned to be integrated with existing urban transport systems, particularly BRT Peshawar, to improve regional connectivity, reduce travel time, and promote sustainable mobility.
