KMC initiates Karachi road rehabilitation programme worth Rs5.54bn
- Selected roads spread across various districts, towns of Karachi, says KMC
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has initiated a comprehensive road rehabilitation programme across the city at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.54 billion, aimed at improving urban mobility and upgrading city infrastructure with a modern and sustainable outlook.
“In line with the Sindh government’s vision to enhance connectivity and provide safer, smoother travel for citizens, the rehabilitation work covers 26 internal roads with a total length of 68 kilometers,” the KMC said in a press release. It added that these roads serve as critical links between residential and commercial areas and major arteries of Karachi and are used daily by a large number of commuters.

On the directives of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the project has been fast-tracked to ensure timely execution. Following these instructions, tenders have been floated, and the execution process has been initiated on a priority basis to accelerate on-ground progress and minimise inconvenience to the public.
The selected roads are spread across various districts and towns of Karachi and include Olympian Islahuddin Road, Naqash Kazmi Road, Sardar Ali Sabri Road, Sebha Akhtar Road, UP More Road, Peer Bazar Road, Al-Amna Road, Rahmina Road, multiple blocks of North Nazimabad, Sakhi Hassan Street, 19-D Road, Road No. 04 and 05, Badar Chowk Road, ZMC Road, Fakir Colony via Mominabad, Mesham Lea Road, Mission Road, Chand Bibi Road, Jinnah Square, Liaquat Market, Khokhrapar Dal Khana Road, Liaquat Road, Mehran Depot Road, and Hashim Raza Road.
The total cost of rehabilitation for these roads amounts to Rs5,530 million.

These roads have been carefully selected based on traffic volume, public usage, and their importance in facilitating daily commuting and economic activity. The rehabilitation work will improve road surfaces, enhance durability, and contribute to better traffic flow and road safety.
The Karachi mayor reiterated that his leadership is focused on delivering visible improvements across the city.
“Our mission is to transform Karachi through sustainable development and efficient governance. These road rehabilitation projects are a step toward restoring Karachi as a vibrant, well-connected, and livable city — the true City of Lights,” he said.
