ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unbreakable strategic alliance with China, emphasising that the two countries’ “iron-clad” partnership would remain steadfast in the years ahead.

Speaking to Sun Haiyan, the visiting Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the One China Policy.“We remain committed to strengthening our long-standing relations with China,” he said, while also extending warm greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the leadership in Beijing.

The talks took place amid celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic ties.

Sharif noted that the year had begun with significant high-level visits, including Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to Beijing, and an upcoming visit by the Speaker of the National Assembly to China.

On economic cooperation, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and emphasised the need for timely implementation of its next phase.

He also reiterated his invitation for President Xi to visit Pakistan this year in celebration of the milestone anniversary.

Haiyan, in response, praised Pakistan’s political and economic stability under Sharif’s leadership and pledged China’s continued support in strengthening bilateral relations.

She also highlighted the need for inter-party ties, noting China’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Pakistan’s political parties.

Ambassador Zafar Uddin Mahmood and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch were also present at the meeting.
