Big Bash League: Zaman Khan leads Brisbane Heat to crucial win
- The defeat costs Hobart Hurricanes a chance to finish first and host a home final
Brisbane Heat kept their finals hopes alive after a crucial victory over Hobart Hurricanes, with Pakistan fast bowler Zaman Khan playing a decisive role, while Hobart missed the opportunity to secure top position on the points table.
The defeat cost Hobart Hurricanes a chance to finish first and host a home final, as Perth Scorchers or Melbourne Stars can now overtake them in the standings.
In contrast, the win lifted Brisbane Heat from fifth to fourth place, keeping them firmly in the race for a finals berth.
Zaman Khan delivered a key breakthrough in the 16th over, bowling Ben McDermott at a critical stage of the chase, swinging momentum firmly in Brisbane Heat’s favour.

Earlier, Brisbane Heat’s innings got off to a slow start, with the team managing their first boundary only on the 16th delivery. Ben McSweeney anchored the innings with a well-paced 49 off 32 balls, while Matthew Renshaw added 37 off 25 balls.
However, Heat suffered a late collapse, losing four wickets for just 13 runs in the final three overs, failing to fully capitalise on their platform.
For Hobart Hurricanes, Riley Meredith claimed three wickets, while Rashad Hossain and Nathan Ellis chipped in with two wickets each to restrict Brisbane Heat.
Despite the late surge with the ball, Hobart were unable to chase down the target, as disciplined bowling — highlighted by Zaman Khan’s timely strike — ensured Brisbane Heat stayed alive in the finals race.
