LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday adjourned to January 16 the proceedings in some identical petitions against increase in smog after counsel of Park and Horticulture Authority (PHA) sought time to submit report regarding cutting of trees in Naisr Bagh.
Earlier, a Member Judicial Commission submitted report to the court about tree cutting at Lahore’s Canal Road.
According to the report, “the large branches of trees have been slashed, which were growing towards the underpass.”
The PHA counsel contended that it was a routine action as the tree could cause an accident.
He, however, informed the court that the PHA has suspended the Project Director responsible for chopping branches of the trees.
He also informed the court that the disciplinary proceedings under the PEDA Act, has also been initiated.
A show cause notice has also been issued to TEPA over an attempt to cut old trees near Data Darbar, the counsel also informed the court.
The court asked the PHA to restore the Nasir Bagh and revive it under its supervision.
The court also warned not to chop branches of any tree without informing the DG PHA and adjourned the proceedings till next hearing.
