The media wing of Pakistan army has disclosed that Afghans were involved in major “high-impact” terror incidents in Pakistan in 2025. Giving a comprehensive overview of counter-terrorism measures taken in the past year, ISPR Director General Lt-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has also said that the fight against terrorism concerned the entire nation and has been ongoing for more than two decades.
According to him, the past year witnessed unprecedented intensity in counter-terrorism efforts. In my view, the ISPR chief is spot on insofar as Afghanistan’s involvement in incidents of terrorism in Pakistan is concerned. There is no denying the fact that it is Kabul that has become the principal source of shelter and sustenance for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants who have been regularly and routinely carrying out terror attacks in Pakistan, particularly in KP province.
New Delhi too is another major backer of TTP, supporting the banned organization and its affiliates, especially financially. The ISPR chief’s assertion that in 2025 the state of Pakistan, as well as the people, gained “complete clarity on terrorism” is also completely accurate or correct. His press conference seems to have provided a thorough, detailed and objective account of the situation, for which Lt-Gen Sharif deserves praise.
Be that as it may, it is about time Taliban apologists in Pakistan stopped romanticizing the Afghan Taliban as the natural rulers of Afghanistan.
