Sindh cabinet panel reviews financial situation, uplift projects

KARACHI: A meeting of the Sindh Cabinet’s Finance Committee was held on Monday. The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Provincial Minister for Labour Saeed Ghani, and Provincial Minister for Home Affairs Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar.

During the meeting, a detailed review of the province’s financial situation and development projects was conducted. The Cabinet’s Finance Committee approved funds for several development and non-development schemes.

Approval was granted for 25 percent funds for the Universities and Boards’ non-ADP schemes. For the projects of St Saviour Church Sukkur and St. Thomas Cathedral Hyderabad, 25 percent of Rs 219 million was approved.

The Finance Committee also approved the holding of the 7th Karachi Literature Festival. An amount of Rs 100 million was approved for the Sindh Archives’ outside-budget allocation. Approval was given for a 3-kilometre link road (Bego Kaka) in Taluka Saeedabad, District Matiari.

An amount of Rs 102 million was approved for the purchase of vehicles and other requirements in the Home Department. Half of the allocated funds out of Rs. 22 million were approved for the Planning and Development Department.

The committee also approved a training programme for officers of Sindh Local Government, Housing and Town Planning. Approval was granted for Rs 162 million for the ADP Scheme 2024–25 of District Sujawal, as well as approval for the ADP scheme of Sari Ghat Wari Darbar, Shikarpur.

During the meeting, Provincial Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah stated that training for local government officers should be mandatory and that token compliance in the name of training would not be tolerated. He emphasized that quality training of officers is essential for public service.
