ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index (SPI)-based weekly inflation continued its downward trend, declining by 0.67 percent for the week ended January 1, 2026.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), a major decrease is observed in the prices of onions, 11.84 percent, potatoes, 10.21 percent, eggs, 6.25 percent, petrol, 3.89 percent, diesel, 3.20 percent, sugar, 2.88 percent, pulse gram, 2.32 percent, pulse masoor, 1.80 percent, LPG, 1.31 percent, gur, 1.12 percent and pulse Mash, 1.05 percent. > from page 1

On the other hand, a major increase is observed in the prices of chicken, 2.37 percent, wheat flour, 1.88 percent, tomatoes, 1.72 percent, bananas, 1.13 percent, garlic, 1.11 percent, rice Basmati broken, 0.96 percent, rice IRRI-6/9, 0.75 percent, vegetable ghee2.5 kg, 0.44 percent, and firewood, 0.01 percent.

During the week, of 51 items, prices of 12 items (23.53 percent) witnessed an increase, 13 items (25.49 percent) showed a decrease, while the prices of 26 items (50.98 percent) remained stable.

The year-on-year trend depicts an increase of 2.41 percent. A major increase is observed in the prices of gas for Q1, 29.85 percent, wheat flour, 24.98 percent, beef, 12.95percent, sugar, 11.90 percent, bananas, 10.63 percent, gur, 10.57percent, firewood,10.43percent, chili powder, 10.31percent, powdered milk, 9.51 percent, lawn printed, 8.29 percent, shirting, 8.07 percent and mutton,7.43 percent. While a decrease is observed in the prices of tomatoes, 70.52 percent, potatoes, 52.25 percent, onions, 40.54 percent, garlic, 37.35 percent, pulse gram, 31.06 percent, tea Lipton, 17.79 percent, pulse mash, 14.01 percent, pulse masoor, 8.38 percent, LPG 2.23 percent, and diesel 0.30 percent.

The SPI for the lowest income group (up to Rs 17,732) declined by 0.62 percent, falling to 323.98 points from 326.00 in the previous week.

For the income group Rs 17,733–22,888, the index decreased by 0.61 percent to 324.53 points, while the Rs 22,889–29,518 group saw a 0.57 percent decline to 346.44 points.
