ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday issued a strong demarche to the Afghan Taliban regime and summoned the Afghan deputy head of mission to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following a deadly terrorist attack on a Pakistan Army camp in North Waziristan district that left four soldiers martyred.
According to the Foreign Office, the attack was carried out by militants belonging to the Gul Bahadur group. During the demarche, Pakistan conveyed its grave concern over the continued support and facilitation allegedly being provided by the Afghan Taliban authorities to the Fitna al-Khawarij/Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (FAK/TTP), enabling them to launch terrorist attacks against Pakistan’s military and civilian population from Afghan soil.
The Foreign Office emphasized that the permissive environment enjoyed by these militant groups in Afghanistan was a clear violation of Kabul’s international commitments, as well as assurances given to Pakistan that Afghan territory would not be used against any other country.
Pakistan demanded a full investigation into the attack and decisive action against those responsible, including their facilitators. The Afghan Taliban regime was urged to take immediate, concrete and verifiable measures against all terrorist groups operating from its territory, including action against their leadership, and to deny the continued use of Afghan soil for terrorism against Pakistan.
The Afghan side was also categorically informed that Pakistan reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and protect its citizens, and will take all necessary measures to respond to terrorism originating from Afghan soil.
