ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Qatar, saying relations between the two countries continued to deepen across multiple sectors.
Speaking at a ceremony marking Qatar’s National Day, he said that Pakistan and Qatar enjoyed “longstanding brotherly relations.”
He congratulated Qatar’s leadership on the occasion and said Pakistan was pleased with the Gulf state’s progress under the Emir’s “wise and visionary” leadership.
He praised Qatar’s efforts to promote dialogue, reconciliation and regional stability, and said the successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup reflected the country’s vision for peace and development.
The prime minister said Pakistan and Qatar maintained cooperation in defence production, trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges, and added that Islamabad was committed to working with Doha for shared prosperity.
He also acknowledged Qatar’s investments in renewable energy, real estate and infrastructure and its contributions to Pakistan’s economic development.
Sharif said Pakistan had expressed full solidarity with Qatar following Israel’s recent military actions, and noted that Doha had extended strong support to Pakistan this year in response to what he described as Indian aggression.
He said Pakistanis living in Qatar played a significant role in the Gulf nation’s development and that the Pakistani public “stood shoulder to shoulder” with the Qatari people.
Earlier, Qatar’s ambassador Ali Mubarak Al-Khater said Doha attached great importance to its ties with Islamabad and intended to strengthen cooperation further.
Later, Sharif, the Senate chairman and other officials joined a cake-cutting ceremony to mark Qatar’s National Day.
