Pakistan, Netherlands ties in agri, academia strengthened: Ambassador

FAISALABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Syed Haider Shah has said that Pakistan and Netherlands ties in the fields of agriculture, academia and research are being further strengthened to get benefit from each other experiences that will help ensure food security, agricultural development and knowledge-based economy.

He expressed these views during a virtual meeting with UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali.

Syed Haider Shah said we have to identify joint venture for the benefit of both countries and to advance bilateral relations in the field of agriculture. He said that nature has blessed Pakistan with four seasons, climate and talented youth. There is a need to promote innovation in the sector keeping standards of the world in view.

Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that promotion of cooperation with the Netherlands in the field of agricultural technology, research and development and international standardization will play an important role for the uplift. He said that in the past, UAF has worked with the Netherlands on floriculture projects to boost up capacity of the floriculture practitioners and farmers, which have yielded positive results.

He called for promoting joint programs and research projects with universities in the Netherlands. He said that adoption of the farmer cooperative model in the Netherlands will help disseminate technology and help small farmers. He said that the Netherlands has a unique position in terms of standardization and we should take advantage of it.

Director Research Rao Zahid Abbas, Director External Linkages, Dr Muhammad Tehseen Azhar, and Dr Zubair also attended the meeting.
