KARACHI On the 58th Foundation Day of his party, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reaffirmed his commitment to continue playing his role for protection of the rights of people, strengthening of the federation and the security of the country.

In his video-link address from the Bilawal House to the PPP workers and the general public assembled at the party’s public meetings in more than 100 cities and towns of the country, including AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, he warned that those who want to undo the 18th Amendment or the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award are “playing with fire.”

Addressing a public rally held in Karachi on the 58th foundation day of the PPP, Bilawal said: “If there is any power in any amendment after the 1973 Constitution, it is in the 18th Amendment.”

27th Amendment: PPP committee rejects proposed amendments to NFC Award

Referring to the 27th Constitutional Amendment, he said that the PPP recently passed a constitutional tweak in collaboration with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He said the PML-N had sent a delegation proposing a constitutional amendment related to Article 243 of the Constitution and the executive magistracy system. He added that the federal government intended to remove the constitutional protections that the PPP had secured for the provinces.

He maintained that, due to the PPP, the constitutional protection was not violated. “We fulfilled the clause of the Charter of Democracy by forming a Constitutional Court and giving equal representation to the provinces,” he added.

“When the PPP itself brings a constitutional amendment, it makes revolutionary legislation,” Bilawal added. He maintained that they got an opportunity to abolish the amendment made during the “dictatorial era.”

The PPP Chairman said that he would not support the government’s any move to weakening of the federation and encroaching upon the rights of the provinces.

He said that Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are like brothers among themselves. “We can all fight Modi together.”

First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari was also present on the stage along with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while the responsibility of directing this historic digital public meeting was taken up by PPP Sindh General Secretary Senator Waqar Mehdi.

Bilawal expressed happiness over holding the largest digital public meetings. “We have created history today.”

He said that the history of the PPP was linked to the past and future of the country. Highlighting the historic initiatives of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, he said that the great leader of the people gave the country democracy, the unanimous constitution of 1973, and the philosophy of economically strengthening the people, especially the less-privileged ones.

He also paid tribute to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and pointed out that after ‘judicial assassination’ of ZA Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto fought for 30 years to restore the constitution and democracy and protect the rights of her people, also confronted two dictators.

He said President Zardari also launched revolutionary programs like the Benazir Income Support Program as a part of PPP manifesto of ‘bread, cloth and house’ to the common man. BISP made it possible to provide financial assistance to poor women across the country.

Bilawal appreciated the role of the Pakistani army in the recent Indo-Pak war and Pakistan emerged victorious. The armed forces have brought Pakistan’s name to the world by shooting down 7 Indian warplanes. He also expressed his satisfaction over the government’s foreign policy in the backdrop of the war with India. He warned that even now the enemy was busy conspiring against Pakistan. The enemy was conspiring to destabilize Pakistan through terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

PPP Chairman emphasized that keeping in mind the challenges facing the country we must unite to combat the new wave of terrorism and the conspiracies of enemy countries. He said that politics must be taken in such a direction that the enemies cannot take advantage of our internal political differences. He stressed that all institutions should work within their respective jurisdictions.
