ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed PTI founder former Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Friday condemned what she called “deeply inappropriate” comments by Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, warning that any harm to the PTI leader would unleash a “tsunami” of public backlash.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, she fired back at remarks made by Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, who had said that “if PTI continues with its obsession, they will have to read Imran Khan’s premature Fateha.”
“Let me make this crystal clear: if a single hair on Imran Khan’s head is touched, there will be consequences,” Aleema warned. “The entire nation stands united behind him. Anyone who believes they can threaten him without facing consequences is fooling themselves.”
Calling Abbasi’s remarks “unbecoming of a federal minister,” she said such statements only contributed to an already volatile political climate. She cautioned the authorities “not to push the situation to a point where public anger becomes unmanageable.”
Commenting on clashes outside Adiala Jail, where PTI supporters had gathered earlier in the day, she maintained that the demonstrators had been peaceful, and that the situation escalated only after police intervention.
Chief Minister Afridi also fired back at Hanif Abbasi, dismissing him as a “political lightweight” and warning that such provocative remarks would do little to raise his profile, leaving him as irrelevant as ever.
“We are not seeking disorder,” he said, “but the government must understand the mood of the people. If anything happens to Imran Khan, there will be nowhere for you to hide.”
