ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former opposition leader in National Assembly, Omar Ayub, a proclaimed offender for failing to appear before the court in connection with a terrorism case linked to the PTI’s October 4, 2024 protest.
ATC judge Tahir Aabba Sipra while hearing the case also ordered National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and Directorate of Immigration and Passports to block Ayub’s Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and passport in a case registered against him at Noon police station. During the hearing, the court also sought details of the Ayub’s properties.
The case was registered following the PTI’s march to the federal capital as part of a series of protests advocating for the independence of the judiciary and the release of its founding chairman, Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated at Adiala Jail for more than two years.
The protest resulted in clashes between protesters and the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) with both sides claiming that the other had attacked them.
