LAHORE: The 2nd International Boxing Championship “Fight for Glory” officially commenced in Lahore with a grand opening ceremony. The championship will continue till 29th November, featuring contests across multiple weight categories.

Provincial Minister for Sports Punjab, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, graced the occasion as special guest.

The championship is being organized with the collaboration of the Government of Punjab, the Fauji Foundation, and Lahore Corps. A total of 44 professional boxers from 15 countries are participating, including 6 Pakistani and 38 international fighters. Athletes, officials, and representatives from the WBA have arrived from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Korea, Australia, Ireland, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Morocco, Benin, Ghana, France, and other nations.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Minister for Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar stated that we are delighted to welcome international players to Pakistan. "Our boxers have been proving their talent on the global stage. The ‘Fight for Glory’ Championship will serve as a significant milestone for the promotion of sports and Pakistan’s positive international image," he said. He added that spectators will witness high-quality and thrilling contests, as renowned national athletes and prominent personalities will also be attending the event.

International boxers expressed their pleasure upon arriving in Pakistan. Athletes from the United States and Ireland shared that we are excited to be in Pakistan. The people here are incredibly hospitable, and we are looking forward to highly competitive bouts. Lahore is a vibrant city with an impressive sporting atmosphere, they added.

Pakistan-origin world-class boxer Muhammad Waseem also expressed his determination ahead of the competition said, "I am fully prepared for the ring. My goal is to deliver my best performance and defeat my opponent to further raise Pakistan’s name. The audience can expect an aggressive and thrilling fight."
