LAHORE: The Ambassador of Belgium to Pakistan, Charles Idesbald Van Der Gracht, commended Pakistan’s economic turnaround on Tuesday, stating that the country’s economy is moving in the right direction despite facing significant challenges over the past year.

“This country, which a year ago was almost on the brink of bankruptcy, is now on the full path to stabilization. One can ask, after all you’ve been through in one year — how is this possible?” Ambassador Van Der Gracht remarked during his address to members of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

The Ambassador made these observations at the inauguration of a Belgian Catalogues Exhibition held at the LCCI headquarters. The event was jointly organized by the Belgian Embassy and LCCI leadership, including President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, and Vice President Khurram Lodhi.

The exhibition featured catalogues from over 100 leading Belgian companies representing diverse sectors including aeronautics, construction, pharmaceuticals, information technology, food processing, environmental services, steel manufacturing, logistics, petrochemicals, and medical sciences. The showcase aimed to provide LCCI members and the broader business community with opportunities to explore potential partnerships and collaborations.

Ambassador Van Der Gracht reflected on the remarkable developments he had witnessed in Pakistan since his first visit to the LCCI less than a year ago. He acknowledged that despite facing political protests, security challenges including terrorism, natural disasters such as floods, and environmental concerns including pollution, Pakistan has demonstrated exceptional resilience.

“Despite being based in Islamabad, my visits across provinces have shown me the strength and resilience of the Pakistani people and business community,” the Ambassador noted.
