ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) Amin-ud-Din Khan on Saturday administered oath to Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha as a judge of the FCC.
Justice Amin became the first Chief Justice of the newly established Federal Constitutional Court (FCC), after the enactment of the 27th Amendment. He has already administered oath to Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Baqir Ali Najafi, a day ago, in the open area between the judges’ and administration block in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), where the FCC has been established.
The President on Friday issued notification for the appointment of six judges – Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha, Justice Rozi Khan Barrech, and Justice Arshad Hussain Shah.
The Federal Constitutional Court judges’ oath taking ceremony was attended by IHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, Justice Muhammad Asif, Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, and Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas, while Justices Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri, Ijaz Ishaq Khan, Babar Sattar, and Saman Rafat Imtiaz were absent.
A crucial power of the Supreme Court, taking suo motu notices, has also been transferred to the FCC, which has been empowered to take suo motu notice upon petitions.
The court has exclusive jurisdiction over constitutional interpretation, intergovernmental disputes, and presidential or parliamentary references, marking a structural transformation in Pakistan’s judicial landscape, one that Justice Amin is uniquely positioned to lead.
