LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) in its enforcement operations against tax defaulters seized records of prominent fast-food and cafe chains in Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sargodha over alleged discrepancies in tax payments.
According to the PRA officials, the enforcement teams also inspected the financial records of several restaurants and marquees in Gujranwala, Rahimyar Khan, and Bahawalpur. During the inspections, officials took possession of documents from four marquees, five cafes, and six restaurants for further investigation.
The officials warned that heavy fines will be imposed on businesses found guilty of collecting sales tax from customers but failing to deposit it into the government treasury. To ensure province-wide compliance, special enforcement teams have been constituted to recover outstanding dues from non-paying entities, they added.
The PRA officials also reported a notable increase in tax revenue collection since the start of the current fiscal year compared to the previous year. They, however, clarified that the Punjab government has not introduced any new taxes nor increased existing rates during the current fiscal year.
