ISLAMABAD: The five-day training programme for one hundred newly appointed teachers of the Basic Education Community Schools (BECS) in Karachi concluded with a renewed commitment to improving teaching quality and expanding access to education in underserved communities.
Organised by the BECS Directorate under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training in collaboration with the Association for Academic Quality (AFAQ), the training aimed to strengthen teachers’ pedagogical skills, enhance classroom management, and promote inclusive, child-centred learning practices.
The programme was part of the government’s broader effort to support non-formal education and integrate out-of-school children into the learning system. BECS recently established 100 community-based schools in some of Karachi’s most deprived areas, offering free education to children from low-income families to help them re-enter formal schooling pathways.
BECS Director General Hameed Khan Niazi highlighted the importance of building teacher capacity, saying that well-trained teachers are key to ensuring quality learning outcomes and sustaining educational reforms at the community level.
Participants and education experts appreciated the initiative, describing it as a vital step toward uplifting teaching standards and addressing urban education inequities through community-based learning models.
The training concluded with participants expressing optimism about applying innovative teaching methods in their classrooms to make learning more engaging and effective for children.
