RAWALPINDI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was barred from meeting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, despite a court order allowing the meeting.
Afridi, accompanied by PTI Chairman Barrister Ali Gohar Khan and other party leaders, arrived at Adiala Jail to discuss provincial matters with Khan. However, police personnel stopped the delegation near the prison gates. After waiting for a few hours, the chief minister and his team returned without being allowed entry.
Talking to the media, Afridi said that he came again to meet with Khan, but police personnel deployed here again told him that he could not meet Khan. “My leader, Imran Khan, has already exposed this system, but some people’s minds were clouded. I am trying to clear that dust”, he said, adding that these people always accused the PTI of engaging in the politics of protest.
Responding to a question regarding the ongoing military operation, Afridi said that his government would not support any policy that disregarded the interests of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “We will not accept decisions made without taking us into confidence,” he stated.
“The soldier who dies is also my brother — both soldiers and civilians are being martyred. We oppose the current policies of the state and believe all stakeholders in the province should be consulted”, he said.
