ISLAMABAD: The country’s top road and gas authorities came under fire on Friday, as a furious parliamentary panel torched the National Highways Authority (NHA) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) for letting public services rot “like rusting pipelines and crumbling tarmac.”
The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination, which met here under the chairmanship of Sanuallah Mastikhel, slammed both the NHA and SNGPL for wasting taxpayer money, as Punjab’s roads crumble and households continue to wait endlessly for gas – despite millions having been spent on infrastructure.
“Billions have been poured into the ground, but what good is a pipeline if it never delivers gas? It’s like laying tracks for a train that never arrives,” Mastikhel said, accusing SNGPL of failing to match infrastructure development with basic service delivery.
The committee also criticised SNGPL’s handling of gas supply issues in NA-91, demanding that the company establish a facilitation centre in Darya Khan and address residents’ complaints as a matter of urgency. Meanwhile, the NHA was rebuked for what the committee described as a pattern of neglect and mismanagement.
