Alleged rigging in NA-46: IHC stays proceedings of newly-formed ET
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday stayed the proceedings of the newly-formed election tribunal, hearing the appeals against alleged rigging in Islamabad’s NA-46.
The IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the petition filed by PTI candidate Aamir Mughal, who was represented by his counsel Faisal Fareed Chaudhry.
After the stay order issued by IHC in NA-46, the election tribunal led by former Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha will not be able to take up any case related to three Islamabad National Assembly seats, which had been fixed for hearing on December 24.
The court also issued notices to the parties nominated in the case to submit their response by next hearing.
Currently, the NA-46 is held by Anjum Aqeel of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while Aamir Mughal of PTI has challenged formation of a new election tribunal regarding this matter.
Additionally, the IHC had earlier issued directives to suspend the election tribunal’s proceedings for constituencies NA-47 and NA-48 in Islamabad.
