KARACHI: SSGC’s theft control teams continued to show zero tolerance towards gas thieves by cracking down on domestic customers using gas for commercial purposes.

In targeted campaigns across the Company’s franchise areas, more than 965 illegal connections were removed. In Niazi Goth, Karachi alone, the theft control team of Customer Relations Department found 800 residents having illegally extended gas arrangements that were dismantled in a swift operation. In Nazimabad and North Karachi neighbourhoods, around 60 illegal connections were removed after the theft control teams’ unearthed direct pilferage in these areas.

Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations (SS&CGTO) team along with SSGC Police and Recovery Department conducted joint raids in Karachi’s localities of Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal and Malir and found gas being used directly in commercial units including milk shop and small garment factories, through heavy generators for power generation purpose. As per SOP, claims are being raised to recover pilfered amount.

Another raid took place in Hyderabad where 20 flats were found using gas directly for domestic through Company’s service valve and header. SS&CGTO team along with SSGC Police carried out the operation. Service line was welded during the raid. The connected load was estimated at 500 cubic feet per hour with 3.39 PSIG pressure.

In Quetta, SSGC’s theft control teams continued to keep the miscreants on the run by removing 55 fake meters from various residential areas. Service lines were also removed and theft claims are being raised.

More raids on overhead and underground connections were conducted by SSGC teams in Nawabshah and Larkana regions where 30 connections were dismantled. Theft clamps and rubber pipes used in theft were removed and claims are being raised.

SSGC is laser focused towards controlling the menace of gas theft through regular raids and aggressive prosecution. Gas theft is one of the major reasons behind SSGC’s line losses that are technically called as Unaccounted-for-Gas (UFG).
