LAHORE: In a recent meeting at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Sudanese Ambassador Salih Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Siddig underscored the need to bolster economic relations between Sudan and Pakistan.

While acknowledging the strong diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations, Ambassador Siddig highlighted the untapped potential for enhancing trade and investment cooperation.

President LCCI reciprocated the sentiment, recognizing the historical friendship between Pakistan and Sudan and the promising trade opportunities between them. Both countries, as members of the OIC, share a common platform for diplomatic collaboration.

Ambassador Siddig stressed the significance of prioritizing food security in Sudan and emphasized the role of Pakistan in achieving this goal through cooperation in agriculture and other sectors. He commended LCCI's expertise and expressed hope for its positive contribution to the Sudanese economy.

President Anwar elaborated on the economic significance of Sudan, citing its strategic location and abundant natural resources. He proposed diversifying trade by exploring various product lines, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure development, and tourism. Highlighting Pakistan's strengths in IT and education, President Anwar suggested collaboration in these sectors to support Sudan's technological advancement. He also advocated for the facilitation of banking channels to facilitate smoother trade and investment flows between the two countries.

Moreover, President Anwar mentioned the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) by the Pakistani government, aimed at expediting investments in key sectors. He encouraged Sudanese investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan, supported by initiatives like the one-window operation in Punjab.

The dialogue concluded with a mutual commitment to explore avenues for strengthening economic cooperation, with both parties optimistic about the potential to elevate bilateral trade volume to new heights.
