LAHORE: Advisor to Prime Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Affairs Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira said on Thursday that the government would provide relief to the salaried class and business community in the upcoming annual budget.

While talking to the media, he said there was a strong realization in the government circles that there was a need to bring ease and comfort to both the classes in the budget. He said the public has also pinned high hopes on the government about the budget.

He also highlighted the propaganda of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media concerning the government’s action against the culprits of the May 9 mayhem. The PTI social media was propagating that no such action has been taken against political workers even during martial law, he said, adding that such a propaganda campaign was not only condemnable but also cognizable.

He said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would urge the Ministry of Interior to investigate and bring forth all such elements active behind the propaganda as the PTI was spreading a false impression with the help of social media.

He also sought punishment against those who propagated allegations concerning the imprisoned women workers. “I demand of the Ministry of Interior to put the law into motion against the propagandists,” he stressed.

He said Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and leadership from other political parties had faced incarceration. Still, their workers had never attacked the army installations. He added that the Army Act would come into action against those who have violated its provisions.

However, he said, the PPP would never support banning a political party. To another query, he pointed out that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) summoned Imran Khan in the Al Qadir Trust case after carrying out an inquiry.
