KARACHI: Several parts of Punjab, Sindh including its capital Karachi, and Balochistan experienced prolonged power outages as the federal energy ministry said ‘a partial blackout’ engulfed the South region and certain areas of North region of NTDC’s transmission system, on Thursday.

However, spokesperson of the K-Electric claimed that the power company’s generation, transmission and distribution network is safe, and fully functional, enabling restoration efforts to progress steadily.

Prolonged power outages were experienced at various parts of Karachi including City’s Old areas, Lyari, Malir, Sarjani Town, Saddar, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Scheme 33, Superhighway, Federal B Area, Liaquatabad, PECHS, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Orangi Town, Baldia Towna, and SITE Industrial Area etc.

Meanwhile Spokesman of K-Electric said phase-wise power restoration continues across Karachi. As per Ministry of Energy reports multiple cities across Pakistan are currently affected following a fault in the national transmission network.

Strategic installations including the airport, hospitals, and KWSB pumping stations have been energized while the restoration of residential areas is progressing gradually.

Parts of F B Area and Gizri including Aga Khan Hospital, Civic Centre, Clifton, Defence, Dhabeji and Elander Road as well as large parts of Gulistan-e-Johar, Liaquatabad, Lyari, Malir and others have been restored.
