Uganda coffee

KAMPALA: Uganda’s coffee exports surged 16% in February from the same month last year, helped by yields from newly maturing trees and favourable prices, the state-run sector regulator, UCDA, said.

The East African producer shipped 562,763 60-Kilogram bags during the month, a report by UCDA seen by Reuters on Tuesday showed. Uganda is Africa’s largest coffee exporter, followed by Ethiopia. The surge in exports, UCDA said, was on account “of fruition of the newly planted coffee as well as favourable weather. This was also due to a positive trend in global coffee prices which influenced exporters to offload more coffee.”
