KARACHI: Chairman of the All Pakistan Motorcycle Spare Parts Importers and Dealers Association (APMSPIDA), Khalid Waheed, has sought KCCI's assistance in convincing the authorities to reduce the exorbitant duties and taxes on import of motorcycle spare parts.

An APMSPIDA delegation, led by Khalid Waheed, during a visit to the KCCI, pointed out that in addition to customs duties and additional duties, the importers of motorcycle spare parts also paid numerous other taxes, making their finished goods uncompetitive.

Due to widespread smuggling of motorcycle spare parts, the legitimate importers and dealers had been facing immense hardships and were not in a position to compete with the smuggled spare parts because of exorbitant taxes and duties. Vice Chairman of the BMG, Anjum Nisar, told the APMSPIDA delegation that the KCCI would certainly take up this issue with the FBR.

President of KCCI, M. Shariq Vohra, also assured the delegation of KCCI support for their righteous demand to cut down exorbitant taxes and duties. He suggested forming of a team consisting of representatives of the KCCI and APMSPIDA with the task to identify issues and accordingly give suggestions for the same in order to create a conducive environment which would prove favorable for the economy.

Senior Vice President of KCCI, M. Saqib Goodluck, said that if it was not possible to stop smuggling at the entry points, then the best solution was to bring down customs duties and taxes while the traders must also completely boycott smuggled items.

Vice President of KCCI Shamsul Islam Khan, former president of KCCI Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra, former vice president Nasir Mehmood and KCCI managing committee members also attended the meeting.
