Captain Safdar's arrest: Saeed Ghani to lead probing committee

Education Minister Sindh, Saeed Ghani has been handed a task to lead the cabinet committee formed to probe the registration of an FIR against PML-N leader retired Captain Safdar.

Other member of the committee include Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Syed Sardar Al Shah, Syed Awais Qadir Shah and Syed Murtaza Wahab.

As per the notification the committee would follow these Terms of Reference (ToRs):

  • To enquire and probe into the incident of I8th and 19th October, 2020 wherein the Police was allegedly pressurized to lodge an FIR against Captain Safdar

    To probe and enquire about the way and manner the Police raided the private hotelin Karachi allegedly, violating the "privacy and dignity" of Maryam Nawaz, and her husband, Captain Safdar

    To probe and enquire into the alleged ridiculing, manhandling of the highest level of the Police which left the entire Police Force demoralized and unwilling to continue with their duties

    Any matters relating to above which have bearing on the above incident and are necessary to be enquired and probed

The Committee shall submit its report within a period of 30 days.

It is worth to mention here that, Safdar on Sunday chanted the PML-N slogan "vote ko izzat do and urged people to join him, while on a visit to the Quaid's mausoleum with PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz.

On Monday, police officials arrested him from a private hotel and filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him over the aforementioned issue. The arrest switched the panic button in the province as top officials of police including Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh applied for leave.

Later in the day, Safdar was released on bail by a local court in Karachi.
