Rise in cases: Several COVID-19 hotspots, streets sealed in Islamabad

(Karachi) In wake of increasing COVID-19 cases, the Islamabad administration sealed various coronavirus hotspots including several streets, media has reported.

The district health department in a notification had recommended the Islamabad administration to impose a “smart” lockdown in areas where coronavirus cases are increasing.

As per details, street number 38, 44, 45, 46, 47, and 48 have been sealed. Similarly, smart lockdown has been imposed on Sawan road adjacent to street 48, in sector G-10/4.

In addition, street numbers 25 and 29 in sector I-8/2 and street numbers 85 and 89 of sector G-9/4 have also been sealed after new infection cases were reported.

The move was taken after several teams conducted COVID-19 surveillance activities in different sectors and observed that cases are increasing rapidly in the said hotspots.

So far, Islamabad has registered 17,210 coronavirus infections, 188 deaths and 16,279 recoveries from the pandemic.

At least 12 people died of coronavirus during the last 24 hours across the country, according to National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC). The total number of casualties from the disease has reached 6,570.

As per details, 666 new COVID-19 cases have been reported while 303,458 patients recovered from the virus across the country. The total count of infections reported in Pakistan was 318,932.

Meanwhile, 28,893 tests have been conducted in 24 hours while 483 patients are in critical condition.

The most number of cases were reported in Sindh with 140,131 patients followed by Punjab with more than 100,687 cases. Similarly, 38,329 coronavirus cases surfaced in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and 15,520 in Balochistan.
