KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has urged ulemas of different school of thought to promote sectarian harmony and do not allow our enemies to take undue benefit from our mistakes.

“We have been living and respecting each other from centuries and now we have to revive those traditions based on mutual understanding, respect and harmony.” This he said on Saturday while presiding over two different meetings of Ulemas here at the CM House.

The meetings were attended by provincial ministers, Saeed Ghani, Nasir Shah, Advisor Law Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, DG Rangers Major General Omer Bukhari, IG Sindh Mushtaq Maher, PSCM Sajid Jamal Abro, AC Home Usman Chachar and others.

The ulemas of Ahle-tashi who attended the meeting include Syed Razi Jafferi, Allama Furqan Haider Abdi, Molana Baqar Hussain Zaidi, Molana Nazir Taqwi, Syed Shabar Zaidi, Sibte Raza, and others.

The ulemas of Sunnis who met in another meeting were Mufti Muneebur Rehman, Mufti Taqi Usmani, Maulana Sarwat Aijaz Qadri, Mufti Abid Mubarak Madani, Mufti Naeem Jan Naeemi, Allama Pir Syed Muzaffar Shah, Allama Ashraf Gormani, Allama Liaquat Azhari and Maulana Rehman Amjad Nomani.

The chief minister said that some unscrupulous elements were trying to create sectarian disharmony in the province from last many days. “We all have to demonstrate unity, fraternity and tolerance to fail such a move which is aimed at destabilizing the country and we all will not allow this.”

Murad Ali Shah said that the code of conduct for Ashura and for Chehlum has already been agreed in our different meetings; therefore we have to abide by it. “Our ulemas have to guide their followers in true letter and spirit,” he said.

The Ulemas assured the chief minister of their support and cooperation. It was also agreed that if any person found to be involved in creating hatred would not be supported by any school of thought. “The law will take its course to deal such a person(s),” the chief minister said.

Shah thanked the Shia and Sunni ulemas that they have been cooperating the government in promoting peace and harmony in the society. “Today, the society is completely peaceful because of the Ulemas’ teachings and preach,” he said.

The ulemas assured the chief minister that they were with the government for promoting sectarian harmony. “We will not allow anybody to create friction in our society,” the ulemas of Shia and Sunni assured the government.

The chief minister pointed out that in the past conspirators used to use wall chalking to create misunderstandings and hatred among the people of different school of thought but now they were using social media. “They are our enemies and are playing in the hands of enemies and we have to identify them,” he said and added we have to understand their designs.

Shah said that the government has started combing the people responsible for spreading sectarian misunderstandings and hatred and would bring them to book. Sindh Chief Minister said that he has directed law enforcement agencies to make foolproof security arrangements for Chehlum procession.
