The lira fell to a fresh record low against the dollar on Friday as investors fretted about the currency's outlook despite supportive central bank moves that raised backdoor borrowing costs.
ISTANBUL: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday he would convene his economic council this week to discuss developments in the economy after the lira currency plunged to a new record low against the US dollar, but said Turkey was on "solid ground".
The lira fell to a fresh record low against the dollar on Friday as investors fretted about the currency's outlook despite supportive central bank moves that raised backdoor borrowing costs.
"These aren't new attacks. They carried out the same operations on us, and continue to do so. Turkey is strong in that regard, it will continue to be on solid ground," Erdogan told reporters in Istanbul after Friday prayers.
