Shan leads Pakistan to 326 against England

A gutsy performance by opener Shan Masood helped Pakistan reach 326 on day-two of the first Test against England being played in Manchester.

The left-hander scored 156 with the help of 18 boundaries and two maximum in his resilient innings to put Pakistan in commanding position in the first innings after opting to bat.

The visitors had a good start on day-one with openers Abil Ali and Shan Masood posting 36 for the first wicket. Jofra Archer provided the breakthrough in shape of Abid’s wicket, who departed after scoring 15.

Skipper Azhar Ali went back to the dressing room without adding to the total. At this stage, Babar Azam and Shan put up a 96-run stand for the fourth wicket, with day’s play reduced to 49.0 overs due to bad light and rain interruption.

Shan (46) and Babar (69) resumed the innings with 139/2 on day-two. Babar was caught in the slip without adding to his overnight total.

Records tumble as Shan hits ton against England

The visitors lose two more wickets in quick succession in shape of Asad Shafiq (7) and Muhammad Rizwan (9).

Shadab Khan and Shan contributed with 105-run stand for sixth wicket, which is the first century stand for Pakistan for the wicket against England in the country. Previous highest was 98 between Aftab Gul and Asif Iqbal at Birmingham in 1971.

Shadab fell five run shy of well-deserved half century, while Shan went on to register in fourth ton of his career.

England pacer wrapped up the tail and restricted Pakistan to 326 after tea. Archer, Stuart Broad claimed three wickets each while Chris Woakes bagged two wickets in the innings.

James Anderson and Dom Bess picked a wicket each for the home side.
