KARACHI: Opposition and treasury members in the Sindh Assembly exchanged unparliamentarily words amid Sindh Energy Minister termed the power cuts by the KE, Sepco and Hesco the 'worst' in urban and rural parts of the province.

Imtiaz Shaikh the Sindh Energy Minister, was giving his views on the electricity crisis in the province, saying that the rural parts are faced with the 'worst' load shedding by the Sepco and Hesco, besides the KE has inflicted miseries on the people of Karachi. "I have held meetings with the Sepco and Hesco officials," in this regard, he added.

The KE informed that the federal government was not providing the required quota of furnace oil for its energy production, which resulted in the electricity load shedding rise. "The federal government provides gas and furnace oil to the KE," he said that the federal government has 27 percent share in the KE.

He blamed the federal government for making the public life miserable with a cut in the much-needed energy inputs. He said that electricity load shedding has exceeded up to 18 hours a day in the rural Sindh with handing "deduction bills" to the power consumers. The government has also placed a ban on the import of fuel oil, he told the Sindh Assembly.

When Sheikh began to criticize the PTI government in harsh words triggered a quarrel between Opposition leader, Firdous Shamim Naqvi of the PTI and Imdad Pitafi of the ruling PPP. Naqvi shouted at him "shut up", while in response the treasury members also followed suit. The remonstration grew up to echo across the aisles of the house, forcing Speaker, Agha Siraj Khan Durrani to adjourn the house till Monday.
