Pakistan beat England by 79 runs in the first official one-day international between two Physical Disability sides played at the ICC Global Cricket Academy in Dubai. Electing to bat, Pakistan compiled 285 for five from 40 overs, vice-captain Hasnain Alam scored 136 while Matloob Qureshi made an unbeaten 113.
In reply, all of England's top eight reached double figures but the required run-rate proved beyond their reach as their innings ended on 206 for six, says a press release issued here on Wednesday. Gordon Laidlaw and Callum Flynn, were England's top-scorers with 32 each while wicketkeeper Liam Thomas supported Matthew Askin in an unbroken stand of 49 for the seventh wicket.
Captain James Williams struck with the fifth delivery of the day, trapping Altaf Ahmed lbw for four, but England had to wait until the 33rd over for Shaun Rigby to eventually break the second- wicket stand, ending Alam's 104-ball innings, which featured 19 fours and one six, with the score on 237.
Williams captured another victim by lbw decision and Danish Ahmed fell first ball to Matthew Partington before Askin took a fantastic catch on the long-on boundary to account for Jahanzaib Tiwana. Qureshi 110-ball knock contained 12 fours. England's openers made a steady start but both fell lbw while sweeping in successive overs. Sam Wyles and Shaun Rigby departed in similar fashion, for 11 and 28 respectively, while Partington and Williams made 12 and 15 before they also perished. With the required run-rate rising rapidly, Askin and Thomas did all they could to keep the score moving. Askin finished unbeaten on 30 from 42 balls, while Thomas contributed 23 off 29. The other two 40-over ODI's between the two sides will be played on Friday and Sunday.
