The office of the Affiliation Committee of University of Karachi has issued a notification for the affiliation of Hashmi Media Institute to introduce M.A, Mass Communication Programme after the approval of recommendations of the committee by the vice-chancellor on behalf of the Academic Council/syndicate, KU.
The institute will offer specialisation in print media, advertising & public relations, management & organisational communication, and electronic media: radio /television programme production & news reporting. The students will be issued M.A degrees by KU upon successful completion of the two-year programme (semester system) from the institute. The application deadline for admissions to the programme is Wednesday, February 29, 2012. The programme shall commence on Monday, March 12, 2012.
HMI aims at national development by providing high quality media education and training to scholars, amateurs and professionals in media. It is a subsidiary of Hashmi Media Welfare Trust that has frequently sponsored media education and given scholarships to the students enrolled in degree programmes in various universities across Pakistan over the past two decades. HMI is registered with Sindh Literacy Department, Government of Sindh and affiliated with KU vide letter no. SAC/HMI/02/2012, dated February 9, 2012.
Taking forward vision of the advertising legend (Late) S. H. Hashmi, the son and Chief Executive of Orient Advertising (Private) Limited, Syed Mahmood Hashmi had made this memorable and appreciable effort to provide quality education for media professionals. The institute plans to offer short and long duration higher degree, diploma, and certificate programmes to enhance the quality of media education in collaboration with a well-reputed British Institution under an MOU signed in 2011.
