Punjab Assembly in its session on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution asking the Parliament to regulate matters relating to drugs and medicines, in terms of article 144 of the Constitution.
Law Minister Sanaullah moved to suspend the requirement of sub-rule (2)of Rule 127 of the Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab 1997 under rule 234 of the rules ibid for taking up resolution under clause (1)of article 144 of the Constitution of Pakistan for bringing up resolution on medicines.
Opposition members had criticised the provincial government for failure to allocate funds, and staged a walkout from the House. They resented that their quota of development funds had not been given by the provincial government. The House had assembled late and could not take up many agenda items such as 'Bank of Punjab (Amendment ) Bill 2011' and 'Livestock and Dairy Development".
In the current parliamentary year, that commenced on March 9, 2011 and will end up on March 8, 2012, there are still 18 days left. It is expected that further session of assembly will take place soon. The Parliamentary year now consist of 100 days, against 70 days prior to passage of 18th Amendment. The House was prorogued indefinitely due to lack of quorum.
