Re-promulgation of Commissionerate System 1979: Website of defunct CDGK still functioning

Despite re-promulgation Commissionerate System 1979, replacing Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) 2001, in Sindh province through a notification issued on November, 10; the website of defunct City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is still functioning by the name of Official Web Portal of CDGK (www.karachicity.gov.pk), it emerged on Monday.
It is pertinent to mention here that the present Commissioner Karachi Roshan Ali Shaikh is still with the designation of District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Karachi, present Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Muhammad Hussain Syed is still serving as Administrator Karachi on the website. Similarly, Deputy Commissioner (DC) West Ghanwar Laghari and Municipal Commissioner Altaf G Memon are still present with the designations of EDO Revenue and EDO Works & Services respectively on the website of defunct CDGK.
Internet is the easiest accessible and fastest way to get information but the authority remained unprepared to launch a web portal with the replacement of the system to facilitate users. The visitors want to seek information about the Karachi's present city administration-including a commissioner, five deputy commissioners, etc - on the Internet would be disappointed to find out that as there is no web-portal serving the purpose.
The CDGK's official website is still disseminating outdated information about the 18 towns of the city. The website also includes the defunct-CDGK departments, and press releases and the list of the executive district officers along with the last update of the news on November 9, regarding the visit of DCO for the inspection offal dumping measures of sacrificial animals.
Earlier, when the commissionerate system took place in July this year, the authority had blocked the CDGK's website http://www.karachicity.gov.pk/, but now the concerned authorities have failed to upgrade the latest information on website, causing difficulties to the Karachiites.
Business Recorder also learned that local government system-2011 and commissionerate system-1979 are running parallel in city which has created problems for officers and citizens. Officials of defunct City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is in the state of uncertainty and found depressed as they are still waiting for the postings despite passing of seven days.
