Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch has severely criticised government's agricultural policy, saying skyrocketing prices of dung, diesel and agriculture medicines have made the plight of farmers miserable.
He said that farmers are facing hardships, as they are not being offered proper amount of money for their paddy and cotton crops by the investors and industrialists. In addition, they are forced to buy dung at heavy prices, as it is not available in the market. He said that federal and provincial governments' tall claims to provide dung to farmers on cheap prices have been proved baseless. Farmers have been left at the mercy of 'black market mafia', he maintained. He warned the government that it would put harmful impacts on the wheat crop production in future, which would ultimately affect the country's economy.
He said that agricultural sector is the backbone of country' economy but government was paying no heed to this important sector. He expressed his resolve that JI would continue to put pressure on the government to take effective measures to ease the problems of farmers in this regard. He expressed solidarity with the poor farmers, saying JI would continue to support them at all levels.
