THE RUPEE: dollar sharply up

The rupee was unmoved versus dollar on the interbank market, while it failed to retain its level in relation to the greenback on the open market, dealers said. The rupee maintained its weekend level in terms of the greenback for buying and selling at 86.64 and 86.68, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: In the first Asian trade euro extended its rally against Swiss franc to more than three percent on Monday after a Swiss newspaper report said the Swiss National Bank is poised to set a limit for the euro-Swiss franc exchange rate and will use all means to defend it.
The target was likely to be a little over 1.10 francs per euro so that the SNB can gradually raise it, the Sonntags Zeitung said on Sunday.
The euro surged 3.3 percent to 1.14400, pulling further away from a record low of 1.00750 franc hit last week on trading platform EBS. The dollar also rallied against Swiss franc, surging 2.7 percent to 0.79883.
The dollar was available against Indian rupee at Rs 45.34, the US currency was available versus the Malaysian ringgit at 2.9810 and the greenback was at 6.392 versus the Chinese yuan.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee fell by 30 paisa versus dollar for buying ant selling at 86.50 and 86.70, they added. The rupee extended the weekend decline versus euro, shedding 74 paisa in relation to euro for buying and selling at Rs 123.71 and Rs 124.21, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The gained five paisa against dollar on Lahore currency market on Monday.
According to dealers, the dollar resumed trading at last Saturday's Rs 86.45 and Rs 86.70 as buying and selling rates, but just ahead of closing of trading, it declined to Rs 86.40 and Rs 86.65 for buying and selling, respectively.
However, the rupee-pound sterling parity remained unchanged amid low trading activity in the open market. The pound's buying and selling rates remained intact at its previous week closing of Rs 140.70 and Rs 141.50, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against dollar at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Monday.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling) against same last rates. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.30 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling).
