Mirwaiz hails OIC’s call on Jerusalem, seeks same for IoK

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has hailed the declaration by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) of East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in Srinagar said that he would be writing to the OIC Secretary General in the coming days on behalf of the people of Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) for taking such a historic decision. “We are happy. The OIC declaration is welcome but now it should be endorsed by other countries,” he added, KMS reported.

The OIC declaration on Jerusalem came days after the US President, Donald Trump decided to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The move was condemned worldwide and even the UN decried the Trump administration’s decision.

“The OIC should now use its diplomatic efforts and win over the European Union (EU) and other UN member states to declare East Jerusalem as capital of Palestine,” the Mirwaiz said.

“We, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, extend our full support to such a decision to declare East Jerusalem as capital of Palestine. But now OIC must move beyond it and initiate diplomatic efforts on Kashmir as well,” he maintained.
