PPP has a good track record with its coalition partners, says Prime Minister
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said that the PPP has a good track record with all its coalition partners. He was talking to media persons after visiting the house of Mian Aamir Mahmood, former Lahore District Nazim, to condole his mother's death. Interior Minister Rehman Malik also accompanied the Prime Minister.
Gilani was of the view that alliances between the political parties are in the best interest of the country, as a stable government can better serve the masses.
To a question, the Prime Minister said that PPP would finalise the modalities of the alliance with PML-Q in a detailed meeting with the PML-Q leadership. Reacting to the statement of Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Gilani said that the Islami Jamhoori Ittihaad (IJI) was formed against the PPP and equating the PPP and PML-Q alliance with IJI would be highly unjustified.
To another question about the proposal of creating a slot of Deputy Prime Minister, he said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had given the constitution to Pakistan and "we have revived it and we are its custodians, so we will collaborate with our coalition partners within the parameters of the Constitution."
The Prime Minister said that MQM is still PPP's coalition partner and it has the prerogative to rejoin the federal cabinet any time. While, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) is not against the PPP, and both are coalition partners in Balochistan as well as sharing powers in Gilgit-Baltistan, he maintained.
The Prime Minister said that as far as the POL prices are concerned, the oil prices in India, UK and the entire world have increased, and Pakistan also has to follow the international market in this regard.
To a question, Rehman Malik told the media that according to an agreement among the tribes, the tribal people had to guard their respective areas, however, the FC and other law enforcement agencies had been deployed in 15 to 20 kilometres troubled area on Kohat-Tal-Para Channar Road and the situation would improve within a week.
