Working Women Organisation (WWO) has strongly condemned recent increase in petroleum prices on Labour Day and described it a drone attack on the poor and working classes.
WWO took out a labour rally at Laxmi Chowk, here on Sunday, to observe international labour day. Addressing the rally, WWO Executive Director Aima Mahmood said that workers were expecting some sort of relief for the poor on the eve of Labour Day. However, government exploded 'petrol bomb' on the masses. She said 80 percent population of the country has already been crushed with the problems of unemployment, load-shedding and law and order situation, while the government is engaged only in prolonging its rule.
Ms. Mahmood demanded that government fix minimum wages at Rs15,000 per month and control inflation so that food items are available to the masses at affordable prices.
The rally was also addressed by Nabila Gulzar Advocate, Tasnim Ejaz and Perveen Bibi. They demanded the government to withdraw recent increase prices of diesel, petrol and other petroleum products. The labour leaders called for unity among the ranks of the working classes, otherwise, they would continue to be exploited by the rich and power-hungry politicians.
