‘Padmavati’ release postponed due to protests in India

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming period drama ‘Padmavati’ which was scheduled to release on December 1, has been postponed. Filmmakers of Padmavati have pushed the release date following protests from various Rajput groups and threats to the film's lead cast Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and director Bhansali.

Lead actor Shahid Kapoor, during an event said, “Sometimes films of this nature.... it gets a bit complicated. I will choose to be optimistic till the due course is done. This is not the time to be angry, not the time to lose your cool. There are enough people doing that. So I would choose to say that I believe in the process,” Indian media reported.

“Of course, any kind of conversation which is violent is not in good taste. I think it was absolutely uncalled for. I hope we will live up to the expectation of the people. I don't want to make any comments specific to a group,” he added.

On the other hand, The Supreme Court of India on Monday refused to interfere in the release of the Hindi film. The court observed that the censor board has not awarded a certificate yet to the film and that is why it would not interfere with the work being done by the CBFC. Reportedly, CBFC has sent back Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ on technical grounds.
